Aftercare

Below you will find the basic process and instructions for receiving and caring for your henna design. Please note that results will vary from person to person as there are many factors involved such as body chemistry, placement, and aftercare.

Getting Prepared

Before receiving henna it is a good idea to cleanse and gently exfoliate the skin. If desired you can shave/wax/epilate at least 24 hours before your appointment. Do not apply any lotions or oils to the area to be decorated. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow easy access to the desired area and allow time for the design to set without smearing.

Application

I will prep your skin with witch hazel before starting. The henna application is completely painless and is done by dispensing the paste from a henna cone similar to a tiny icing bag. It even tickles a little! Henna is naturally cooling and a relaxing experience. Once finished you will need to restrict or eliminate movement of the area and allow the paste to dry completely. Once dry, a natural sugar sealant may be applied or special medical tape to make it easier for the paste to stay on. Once dry and sealed, the paste will need to stay on for 4-24 hours.

The longer the paste is left on the better your results.

You must avoid water, heavy sweating, high humidity/moisture with the paste on. Any excess moisture will cause the design to smear and the dye release to cease.

Paste Removal

DO NOT USE WATER!

When it's time to remove the paste you can pick, scrape or peel it off. If the medical tape was applied over your design you can just peel the tape off and most of it will come up with it. If you have some stubborn bits you can apply a little bit of coconut or olive oil to help release the dried paste. Be sure to dispose of any removed paste in the trash as it will still stain materials and skin. Your newly revealed design will be a bright orange color. Rest assured your stain will darken over the next 48-72 hours. For best results, keep away from water for the first 12 hours; keep the design moisturized and avoid chemicals and exfoliants. Over time your design will fade as your skin naturally exfoliates and cycles. Designs last on average 1-3 weeks.
